PRAGATHI hopes to create opportunities of gainful self-employment for the rural families, especially disadvantaged sections, ensuring sustainable livelihood, enriched environment, improved quality of life, and good human values Disabled people face a wide range of employment disadvantages as they suffer from different types of disabilities with different degrees and intensity. As a result of this, they cannot easily be divided between those who can work and those who cannot . The major barrier to employment by PWD in our society continues to be attitudinal barriers, stereotypical thinking and the assumption that they cannot do the work done by the normal people.
The MGNREGA ( Mahatma Gandhi National rural employment guarantee act is designed to provide job guarantee for at least 100 days in rural parts of the country. Through this scheme, all the adult members ( at least 18 years of age) of the any family in rural part of the country are given non- skilled work MGNRES further states that “if a disabled person applies for work, work suitable to his/her ability and qualification will have to be given. This may also be in the form of services that are identified as integrated to the programme.
Provisions of these persons with disabilities (equal opportunities, protection of rights and full participation) Act 1995 will be kept in view and implemented”. PRAGATHI adopted the scheme in 9 mandals of kadapa district such as Mydukur, Duvvur, Kajipet, Rayachoti, China mandem, Gali veedu, Pullampet, Obulavaripalli, Penagaluru. So the identified disabled person were provided job card the information in the form of vikalangula srama shakthi sangam(vsss) and benefits were extended to these indentified person. As a result of this program a total of 391 members benefitted. We can also say that a total of 391 families were uplifted because of PRAGATHI’S intervention.
